The ethos and purpose of the Town Council is to deliver the best projects and services possible for the local community, provide value for money and enhance the lives of local residents

Bridgend Town Council is a separate organisation to Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) and our responsibilities and services are different to those provided by BCBC.

In summary, Bridgend Town Council:

  • Owns and manages the former library building in Bridgend Town Centre, now re-named Carnegie House
  • Has established and continues to provide a varied programme of art, culture and well-being activities, classes and events at the Arts Centre which is based on the ground floor of Carnegie House and via its online platforms
  • Owns the Ty’r Ardd building in Sunnyside to be refurbished as a new Town Hall
  • Manages five allotment sites with a total of 124 allotment plots
  • Considers and provides comments on planning applications as a statutory consultee
  • Is the custodian of the Town Centre War Memorial and Randall Memorial
  • Provides a Blue Plaque Scheme to commemorate notable people, places and events and recognise significant contributions made to the area
  • Has installed and maintains a Heritage Walkway in Bridgend Town Centre to provide information to the public about the important role that Bridgend played in World War II
  • Provides 33 Dog Waste bins and a weekly dog waste collection service within the wards
  • Has installed and/or maintains a wide range of street furniture including litter bins, picnic and street benches, bus shelters, notice boards and telephone kiosks within the wards
  • Supplies and maintains summer floral displays and trees and undertakes landscaping projects within the wards
  • Employs a small team of outdoor staff who work to improve the street scene in the town centre and tackle issues such as graffiti and gum removal
  • Owns and cleans 11 bus shelters within the wards
  • Has provided financial support towards the development of new toilet facilities in Bridgend Indoor Market (this project was a collaboration between Bridgend Market Traders Association, Bridgend Town, Council, Bridgend County Borough Council and The Rhiw Shopping Centre)
  • Provides financial support towards the school holiday play scheme for local children at the Halo Leisure Centre
  • Co-ordinates the Children & Family Remembrance Event and the annual Sunday Remembrance Parade and Service in Bridgend Town Centre
  • Supports local tourism with the provision of free large scale annual town centre events such as ‘Wartime Bridgend’ and ‘Bridgend Light Festival’
  • Works with the Town Twinning Association to support Town Twinning exchange visits
  • Provides Christmas illuminations and supports the ‘Bridgend Christmas Lights Switch-on’ event
  • Works with The Lions Club Bridgend to provide a Christmas Grotto at Carnegie House
  • Has an active grant programme, providing financial support to many community and charity groups in the area
  • Represents the voices of the community on partnerships or external bodies such as the Bridgend Community Safety Partnership and the Town and Community Council Forum
