Wards

The Bridgend Town Council residents are currently represented by 19 Town Councillors covering the three wards of Morfa, Newcastle and Oldcastle. The Councillors are elected to represent the particular interests of residents within their wards and the general interests of Bridgend Town as a whole. Elections are typically held every four or five years, the last election being 5th May 2022.

The Morfa ward includes half of the town centre and the residential areas north-east to Caeffatri and Wildmill along the main routes of Coity Road and Quarella Road; with the River Ogmore as the western boundary.

The Newcastle ward is to the north-west of the town centre and west of the River Ogmore. It consists of the southern part of the Cefn Glas housing estate (bounded by St. Winifred’s Road, Bryntirion and Newcastle Hill areas). Tondu Road and the parallel Cefn Glas Road are the main routes into the town from the north with Park Street to the West.

The Oldcastle ward covers the south of the town centre with its northern boundary along Brackla Street and its southern border as far as the Ewenny River, meeting the Vale of Glamorgan Council area. Main routes in this ward include Nolton Street, Merthyr Mawr Road, Ewenny Road and Cowbridge Road together with the areas around Coychurch Road, Tremains Road and Waunscil Avenue up to Pen-y-Banc.
