Look Up Project 2014/2015

Look Up was a visual arts project aimed at the regeneration of unpainted and empty walls in the town centre in a way that was both creative and engaging. The idea follows trends set by other towns and cities in Wales. The project was funded through the Townscape Heritage Initiative and the Special Regeneration Fund.

The project engaged a team of local artists and professional painters with the backing of Carnegie House, Bridgend Arts, Bridgend County Borough Council, Bridgend Town Council and local businesses.

Although street art is well-established in Cardiff and Bristol, this was the first such project to take place in Bridgend.

Among the pieces included was a mural painted by children from Llangewydd Junior School, which depicts Bridgend.

These beautiful murals can be seen throughout Bridgend Town Centre creating moments of surprise and joy, just remember to look up!

Green Links Bridgend – Plantlife

In 2020 Carnegie House joined forces with Green Links Bridgend and Plant life to raise awareness of our local natural environment and climate change.

The collaboration resulted in some fantastic free online and plein air workshops with Artist Claire Hiett, Textile Artist Alison Moger and experts from Plantlife.

Bridgend Community Quilt Project

During lockdown Bridgend Town Council supported the Bridgend Community Quilt Project run by local Mixed Media Artist Melissa Bevan. This fantastic project set-up on a Facebook Group Page inspired people in Bridgend to get making, share their talents and creativity with the community. Each square produced has been sewn together by Melissa into a large Community Quilt, which will be on permanent display at St Johns House.
